2019 Green Platform

This is our platform. It is not a conventional set of political promises. It represents a vision for Canada in 2030, which has been sorely missing in public discourse. Our platform commitments represent the types of policy changes needed to make this vision a reality. (Introduction, 2019 Platform)

Peter Smith will fight for sustainable industry, an issue at the heart of Sarnia-Lambton

SARNIA — The Green Party and Peter Smith are certain the party’s 2019 platform best represents the interests of residents of Sarnia-Lambton and of all Canadians this election. The full platform — made with vigorous consultations and research across Canada — is now available online https://www.greenparty.ca/en/platform.

“I spent my entire career working in the energy industry. I know how to find common ground among competing organizations and how to solve problems. The Green Party is the only party with a realistic plan to address the major issues facing us today: mitigating climate change, growing the economy, ending poverty and creating sustainable jobs,” says Peter Smith.

The Greens have the only platform that proposes a clear and practical path towards meeting Canada’s carbon-reduction commitments, while diversifying its economy through the creation of new industries. None of the other parties have a plan to create new green jobs and businesses in Ontario.

The party’s platform is an alternative to decades of flimsy climate leadership and corporate cronyism in the federal government. It is the only platform that uses the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as guidelines. It promises sweeping progress on the local, national and international level.

Peter Smith says, “The Greens will benefit our community by providing a clear path to creating jobs in sustainable industries. Sarnia-Lambton is actively seeking to attract sustainable industries, but needs a government committed to moving the entire country in this direction.”

As a Green candidate in Sarnia-Lambton, Peter Smith pledges to:

  • Safeguard the environment by completely transitioning away from fossil fuels by 2050.
  • Invest in new climate-friendly industries such as renewable resources and agriculture.
  • Work with Indigenous Peoples towards self-governance and abolish the Indian Act.
  • Expand healthcare to include dental, mental health, and pharmacare.
  • Begin a massive program to retrofit old buildings with energy-efficient fixtures, creating thousands of jobs in the trades.

The Green Party and Green policy are non-partisan and take the best ideas from the ideological spectrum. This is a new way of governing, one that Peter Smith is sure will appeal to Sarnia-Lambton voters as they head to the polls.

Peter Smith’s campaign office is located at 100 Christina St. N. The office is open Monday 3:00 – 5:00 PM, Wednesday 8:30 – 10:30 AM, and Friday 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
